Every now and then we at TRR will give you training tips on how to become a professional referee. You'd be amazed how many every day situations, or the simplest of tips, can be instrumental training opportunities for you to gain that extra edge to one day become a professional (or a replacement when they go on strike). That poor referee (Larry Rose?) looks like he lost his hat in last night's Chargers/Broncos MNF game, right?
But let that be a lesson to you aspiring NFL back judges. Despite getting robbed of his hat, he still mans up to make the "it's good" signal while maintaining stellar balance.
Also, notice back judge, Scott Helverson, has impeccable upper body posture (left), but displays a major flaw in his tight legged stance, which makes him completely off-balance. Should the ball bounce off the safety net and back into play, it could very well hit him and knock him flat on his face.
Meanwhile, the hatless referee (right), is perfectly balanced while making the call; and all done without his precious thinking cap.
